Questions about this product

How many plates and what size?

50 paper plates at 8.5 in diameter, round, in a value pack.

Is 8.5 inches a dinner plate or a side plate?

It sits between the two. It is the everyday size: big enough for a sandwich, a slice, or a normal dinner portion, and small enough that a stack does not dominate a cupboard.

Are they sturdy?

Sturdy is the single most repeated word in the positive reviews after the word plates itself. They hold a full plate of food without the middle folding, which is the failure people expect from paper.

Are they microwave safe?

Yes, listed microwave safe, so reheating on the plate is fine. Nothing metallic is printed on them.

Will sauce soak through?

They are leak resistant, which handles sauce and grease for a normal meal. They are not a substitute for a coated plate if something is going to sit for an hour.

Are they compostable?

Yes, listed compostable. Check what your local facility accepts, since food soiled paper is handled differently from clean paper.

What do they look like?

Multicolor with a flowers pattern, sold for everyday use rather than a specific occasion.

Can I use them for a party?

The occasion rating is everyday, so the pattern is a general one rather than seasonal. That is an advantage if you want one pack that suits anything.

Are they coated or plain paper?

Paper with leak resistance rather than a heavy plastic coating, which is what allows the compostable rating.

Can I cut on them with a knife?

A knife will score through a paper plate of any grade. For anything needing real cutting, a plate this size is the wrong tool.

Are they for home use?

Residential is the rating. For a commercial kitchen there are heavier grades built to be handled repeatedly.

What is the UPC?

Skip the pricey brands, these win

These are my everyday kitchen plates. Don't let other brands' prices fool you. If you need something solid for snacks and kids, this size is right, and you can wipe one clean with no residue when a kid changes their mind mid-bite.

Holds heavy food

Dixie plates stay solid under heavy food like fried chicken or pork ribs. They don't bend easily; for really loaded plates I just stack two and we're fine. I reach for them whenever I don't want to dig out the ceramic dishes.

Favorite plates we own

We don't buy any other paper plates. Size is spot on, and they're firm enough that dinner doesn't tip when you walk across the room. Everyday use at our place, especially in summer when nobody wants a sink full of dishes.

They work well for us. I put cat food on one, then toss it, and they go in recycling, which I like. I almost bought a cheaper bulk option, but I'm glad I stuck with these. Quality is good and the price isn't bad.

Matches name brand for us

Handy for a crowd or a lazy night. Quality feels on par with name brand, no floppy flip-flopping. One caveat: reheating in the bowl makes them soggy. Either skip the microwave or double up after you heat the food.
