Questions about this product
How many loads does the jug do?
190 loads from 140 fluid ounces. It is a concentrated formula, so the dose is smaller than an older non-concentrated softener.
How do I use it?
Pour it into the washer's fabric softener dispenser, a Downy ball, or add it at the start of the rinse cycle. Never pour it directly onto dry clothes in the drum, because undiluted softener stains fabric.
Why does it stain if poured straight on?
Concentrated softener is not water-soluble until it is diluted by the rinse water. Poured onto fabric it sits as a greasy patch that will not wash out in that cycle.
Is it safe for all skin types?
It is rated for all skin types. If anyone in the house reacts to fragrance specifically, a free and gentle softener is the safer choice, because scent is the point of this one.
Can I use it on towels?
You can, but softener coats fibers and reduces absorbency over time, which is the opposite of what you want from a towel. Most people skip it on towels and use it on clothing and bedding.
Can I use it on activewear?
No. Softener clogs the wicking structure in technical fabric and traps odor. Wash activewear without it.
Is it safe for HE machines?
Yes, used through the dispenser. Do not exceed the dispenser's fill line, because overfilling is what causes residue build-up in the drawer.
What does April Fresh smell like?
It is Downy's long-running signature scent rather than a seasonal variant, which is why people repurchase it specifically.
How does 140 fl oz compare with the smaller bottles?
Same formula. The jug is cheaper per load and heavy to pour, which is why some people decant into a smaller bottle.
What is the UPC?
030772100516.
