What does a laundry booster do?
Borax raises the pH of the wash water, which makes detergent work more effectively and helps lift stains and odor that detergent alone leaves. It is added alongside detergent, not instead of it.
How much do I use?
Half a cup per load added to the drum with the detergent. More is not better; excess borax leaves residue on fabric.
Is it safe for colors?
Yes. Borax is not a bleach and does not strip color. It is commonly used on both whites and colors.
What else is it used for?
It is a multi-purpose household cleaner as well as a laundry booster. Common uses are scrubbing sinks and tubs, deodorizing bins and drains, and as an ingredient in homemade cleaning mixes.
Is it safe around children and pets?
It is a chemical, not a food product, despite the all-natural framing. Keep it out of reach, do not let pets walk through spilled powder, and wash hands after handling. Do not use it where a child or animal could ingest the residue.
Does it soften water?
Yes, that is part of how it works. In hard water areas it is noticeably more effective, because hard water is what blunts detergent in the first place.
Does it work in cold water?
It dissolves better in warm. In a cold wash, dissolve it in a cup of hot water first and add that to the drum.
What scent is it?
Clean Fresh. It is a light scent rather than a perfumed one.
How should I store it?
Sealed and dry. Borax cakes hard if it takes on moisture, and a caked box is difficult to dose.
