Directions

Potassium nitrate at 5% and sodium fluoride at 0.24%, which supplies 0.14% fluoride ion. The potassium nitrate handles sensitivity and the sodium fluoride is the anticavity active.
How does potassium nitrate reduce sensitivity?
It calms the nerve inside the tooth rather than sealing the surface. That is a different mechanism from a stannous fluoride paste, which builds a physical layer over exposed dentine. Some people respond better to one than the other, which is worth knowing if a sensitivity toothpaste has failed you before.
How long before it works?
Four weeks of continuous twice-daily use is the stated result time. It builds rather than acting immediately, and stopping lets the effect fade.
How much should I use?
Adults and children 12 and over apply at least a 1 inch strip and brush thoroughly, twice a day. A pea-sized amount is under-dosing for a sensitivity paste; the full strip is part of how it works.
