How do they close?
A double zipper. Pinch and run a finger along the full length of the track rather than pressing the middle. A bag sealed only in the center is where the leak reports come from.
Why do some reviewers say the seal fails?
Seal and zipper are the two recurring words in the negative reviews. On a double zipper bag the usual causes are overfilling past the track, food or moisture caught in the zipper, and sealing by pressing rather than sliding along it.
Are they rated for the freezer?
Yes, they are freezer bags, and they also carry an all purpose rating for general storage. Freezer grade film is thicker and resists the cracking that makes a thin sandwich bag fail when cold.
How full should I fill one?
Leave headspace. Liquid expands when it freezes and a quart bag filled to the zipper will force the track open in the freezer.
Are they clear?
Clear, so you can identify the contents without opening the bag.
Can I lay them flat to freeze?
Yes, and it is the best way to use them. Press the air out, seal, and freeze flat. Flat bags stack and they thaw much faster than a block frozen upright.
Can I use them for cooking or boiling?
No. They are storage and freezer bags. Heat is not what the material is rated for.
Can I reuse them?
For dry goods, after washing and drying fully. Never for anything that held raw meat.
